Networking around a Unified Improvement Initiative: A Pioneering Approach to the Challenge of Teaching the Arabic Language 25/7/2023
The work with the Jordan Hub on their pioneer research initiative, which is the inter-school collaboration towards improving the Arabic language learning at their schools, was concluded with two meetings on June 13, 2023. The first meeting involved all participants in this initiative to express gratitude to the teachers for their efforts in leading the implementation of the project. Additionally, it involved framing the contribution and collecting data about the positive impact of the project on their learning, along with generating recommendations for the upcoming year. A second meeting with the Arabic leaders and TAMAM lead teams was conducted to think about the components of the plan for next year and the nature of interventions based on the lessons learned from this year.
We would like to remind you that the networking initiative among the schools of the TAMAM Jordan hub is a unique initiative in the Arab world. It began in 2020 when the lead teams from the participating schools agreed to follow the TAMAM sustainable school improvement journey to identify a common improvement need. After a deep understanding of the improvement need related to enhancing the Arabic language, gathered from various members of the school community (students and teachers), and after clarifying the causes and aspects of the problem, a shared vision and a common improvement goal were developed by the schools collectively. Both Dr. Hanadi Dayya, a specialist in learning and teaching Arabic, and Mr. Yusri Al-Amir, a specialist in the Arabic language, have accompanied the teams since the beginning of the project, providing the necessary guidance as language experts. The culmination of the year 2020-2021 was a training camp led by Dr. Hanadi Dayya, during which she worked with the Arabic language leaders in the schools to create three connected continua describing the characteristics of the learner and the level of their language skills in reading, writing, and speaking. Mr. Yusri Al-Amir worked with two groups of elementary and preparatory school teachers during the academic years 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 to lead the implementation of the improvement project in the targeted classes.
The steering team commends this exceptional and pioneering work that began with five schools in the TAMAM network in Jordan, namely, Al-Asriyya Schools, the Amman Baccalaureate School, Al-Bayan School, the Baptist School, and the Ahliyyah and Mutran Schools.
